The set of all possible inputs for a function is called the domain, and the inputs fall on the x‐axis in a graph. The set of all possible outputs for a function is called the range, and the outputs fall on the y‐axis in a graph. If the domain has an input that is associated with (or results in) more than one output, then the relation between the inputs and the outputs is not a function.
When a question asks you to find the domain and/or range of a function, keep in mind the various properties and other rules you have learned for numbers and operations. Sometimes you can’t have certain inputs and/or outputs because of some certain mathematical rules.
